Prescription for Old Age

Prescription for Old Age

My life’s work now accomplished
Whatever it may have been
It’s true that I’ve paid in advance
To be cremated and have my cremains
Placed quickly as permanently as possible
Into a crannied marble wall nearby- both that
The Ustor’s children proudly never need go hungry &
That my own not be left too many untidy
Loose ends to bind…

And that they need not seek out,
As did the daughters of King Pelias, any fated
Medea to cure me preternaturally
By wort & herb & spell-bone
Of an aged & ossified slow mind
